Here is a summary of my latest\u00a0 research activities. The reader may also refer to my list of publications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_5\"><strong><em>Quantum Communication and Cryptography<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_6\">The field of quantum information processing is currently attracting enormous interest in view of its fundamental nature and its potentially revolutionary applications to computation and secure communication. Essentially, the implementation aspects of quantum information processing have by now become an integral part of modern physics and in particular quantum optics. Currently, I am involved in studies on faithful quantum state transfer and the design\u00a0 of quantum networks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_6\">Quantum cryptography is the most mature research field of quantum information processing. While certain quantum key-distribution (QKD) prototypes have entered the market, further deployment of QKD technology is hindered by various road blocks including the problem of key management, which appears in large communication networks. My recent investigations are focused on the prospect of quantum public-key cryptography (QPKC) that remains largely unexplored up to now and can provide a way out of this stumbling block. QPKC combines the provable security of QKD protocols with the flexibility of conventional asymmetric cryptosystems, and has the potential to bring quantum cryptography closer to everyday life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_5\"><strong><em>Interactions between Matter and Radiation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_6\">Problems pertaining to the interaction between matter and radiation arise in various contexts of physcis and are of fundamental importance. I am particularly interested in problems with non-Markovian\u00a0 aspects, as well as on the role of field fluctuations in such interactions. Most recently, I have undertaken studies pertaining to the interaction of atoms with intense, coherent short wavelength radiation (from XUV to hard X-rays), available through the new generation of FEL-based sources. This work involves the development of new theoretical and computational approaches, as well as the interpretation of\u00a0 existing experimental results, with continuing involvement in ongoing or planned experiments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_5\"><strong><em>Ultracold Atoms<\/em><\/strong><span class=\"style_3\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_6\">My activities in the context of ultracold quantum gases have been focused mainly on various aspects of Bose-Einstein condensation, such as the merging of condensates, as well as the dynamics of atom lasers, and the interaction of ultracold atoms (in condensates or optical lattices) with radiation.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6 class=\"paragraph_style_3\"><strong>Collaborations<\/strong><\/h6>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_3\">One can be directed to the personal web pages of my collaborators by clicking on their names.
